Sidney Chambers and The Dangers of Temptation

Sidney Chambers and The Dangers of TemptationSidney Chambers and The Dangers of Temptation by James Runcie

3.5 stars. First off I want to thank Netgallery for allowing me to preview this book.
For those that like the Farther Brown Mysteries, then they will enjoy reading about Archbishop Sidney Chambers and his friend and detective Jordy. This book has six novellas in it, with Sidney, Jordy, Dickens (Sidney’s dog)

All of the novellas have the mystery, friendships, and life’s everyday problems, which are full of adventure, light heartedness, and will keep the reader guessing as to whodunit, in the English village.

Sidney, is a young, single, attractive, vicar who finds himself getting involved with the police, mainly his good friend Inspector Jordy, who doesn’t always see eye to eye with Sidney, and often times refers to Sidney’s way of thinking is due to his normal everyday job as a vicar instead of following the evidence to lead them to the real guilty party. Although, Jordy does appreciate Sidney and all his help, he occasionally has to remind Sidney that he isn’t a cop, and he can’t just go off and discover evidence on his own. But when the two do work together they do get the job done, and afterwards they will celebrate at the pub with a drink and good game of backgammon.

Threw each of the stories in this book, you see some personal issues that Sidney tries to work out. He’s still in love with his sweetheart Amanda, and she too can’t let Sidney go, even though she is married to someone else that she can never give her heart to fully.

At times, it seemed like some of the personal stories interfered with the mystery part, but once they were focused in on the mystery each story flowed more easily.
