The Miracle on Monhegan Island: A Novel

The Miracle on Monhegan Island: A NovelThe Miracle on Monhegan Island: A Novel by Elizabeth Kelly

4.5 Stars. This book was narrated by 3 year old Ned, a Shith-Tzu who was stole from his home by Spark, who is returning to Monhegan Island in Maine. He’s been away for about four years and is coming back to see his son, his father who is a God fearing man, and his artist brother Huge. There’s tension between them all.
Hally, Spark’s son seems to have vision, he’s had visions of suicides, the Virgin Mary standing on a cliff near their island home, and mental illnesses. Spark’s dad, Pastor Ragnar is a self-serving, manipulative pastor who uses Hally like a marketing tool to draw in his “congregation”. The Monhegan men struggle to reconcile their past resentments, ongoing personality differences, and inner demons.
Elizabeth Kelly, the author pulls it off by having it narrated by the dog, and giving him some funny one liner. It was interesting to see how the characters developed from start to finish. This was a fun, nicely paced and a wonderful read.
